The Dennis Township School District said classes wouldn't be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10 "due to the continued threat in our area" and to keep students and staff safe. The district announced the cancelation in a Facebook post at 9:19 a.m.

The township said state police were actively investigating with a helicopter and K-9 units in the South Seaville section of Dennis.

"Please be vigilant and keep yourself and property secure," the township said in a Facebook post. "If you see anything suspicious, please call 911."

The district first warned families about the active scene at around 7:36 a.m. School buses weren't running and parents were asked to keep children indoors.

Upper Township schools superintendent Allison Pessolano issued a message to families about the investigation in neighboring Dennis.

"We have been informed of a situation in Dennis Township that has led to Dennis Township schools being in lockdown," Pessolano wrote. "We have been in touch with the state police and are aware of the ongoing situation and are taking precautions here to keep our students and staff safe. At this time, there is no further action we need to take and the state police are keeping us updated. We will be in touch if there is any further information we need to share."

Middle Township police also said there was no threat to residents of its communities.

Daily Voice has reached out to state police for details about the investigation. A spokesperson didn't respond as of press time.
